Playful Engineers

Friday, July 1510:00 AM—12:00 PMCommunity RoomNorfolk Public Library2 Liberty Lane, Norfolk, MA, 02056

Norfolk Public Library presents an in-person public, multi-generational, hands-on event with Jay Mankita. Kids and families design, build, test, and play with Rube Goldberg “Machines,” complicated chain reactions accomplishing simple tasks.

Participants learn through demonstration, and through selfdirected play, to make kinetic parts, exploring force and motion, scale, and cause and effect. Jay brings his 'Traveling Maker Space, including Tinker Toys, K'Nex, Hot Wheels tracks, ping pong balls, wooden blocks, toy cars, and action figures, plus rubber bands, string, tape, paper clips, and literally thousands of dominoes. Lots of trial & error-focused activities with multiple opportunities for participants to learn from their mistakes, and to share their delight, as well as their frustration. We will hear groans and cheers, as the machines run their course!

All ages Kindergarten through Adults welcome!
