Horror Panel: a discussion with local authors
Wednesday, October 207:00—8:30 PMCommunity RoomNorfolk Public Library2 Liberty Lane, Norfolk, MA, 02056
Join us for a terrifyingly terrific line up for local horror authors as they discuss their writing style, process, and books.
The featured authors will be:
Mary E. Hart: Mary E. Hart is the author of the haunted house novel, “Some Horrific Evening” and the 1980s themed horror tale, “Not Your Barbie Dino” in the collection “Totally Tubular Terrors.” When she’s not writing about robot technology in her full-time job, or creating stuffed animal wrestling shows with her son, she is working on her second novel, which is akin to a Hallmark Christmas movie.
Christine Lajewski: Christine Lajewski is a local author, retired alternative high school teacher, a teacher/naturalist for Massachusetts Audubon and a haunt actor. She writes horror but that is not what she set out to do. Her novel, JHATOR, is an exploration of grief and recovery through interaction with the natural world. It is written from a Buddhist perspective but has supernatural elements to it. ERRING ON THE SIDE OF CALAMITY is a horror short story collection of bad choices and even worse consequences. BONEBELLY has a little piece of hell nestled next to an outdoor haunted attraction in Rhode Island and a monster searching for redemption among the haunt actors. For more information, please visit her website.
Errick Nunnally: Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Errick Nunnally served one tour in the Marine Corps before deciding art school would be a safer—and more natural—pursuit. He strives to develop his strengths in storytelling and remains permanently distracted by art, comics, science fiction, history, and horror. Trained as a graphic designer, he has earned a black belt in Krav Maga/Muay Thai kickboxing after dark. Errick’s work includes: the novels, BLOOD FOR THE SUN and LIGHTNING WEARS A RED CAPE; LOST IN TRANSITION, a comic strip collection; and first prize in one hamburger contest. The following are some short stories and their respective magazines or anthologies: PENNY INCOMPATIBLE (Lamplight, v.6, #3 and the Podcast NIGHTLIGHT); JACK JOHNSON AND THE HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE OF THE GALAXY (The Final Summons); WELCOME TO THE D.I.V. (Wicked Witches); A FEW EXTRA POUNDS (Transcendent); and A HUNDRED PEARLS (PROTECTORS 2: stories to benefit PROTECT.ORG). Eventually, Errick came to his senses and moved to Rhode Island with his two lovely children and one beautiful wife.
Rob Smales: Rob Smales is the author of the collection Echoes of Darkness, which garnered both a five-star Cemetery Dance Online review and a 2016 Pushcart nomination. With over three dozen shorts published, his story “Photo Finish” was also nominated for a Pushcart Prize and won the Preditors & Editors’ Readers Choice Award for Best Horror Short Story of 2012. His story “A Night at the Show” received honorable mention on Ellen Datlow’s list of the Best Horror of 2014, while “Death of the Boy” and “In Full Measure” made the same honorable mentions list for 2016. Most recently, he edited the dark humor anthology A Sharp Stick in the Eye (and other funny stories) for Books & Boos Press, and released the coming of age horror novella Friends in High Places with Bloodshot Books. He hails from Salem, Massachusetts, where he lives, writes, and occasionally sleeps.
